The language our representatives use to talk about asylum seekers makes me quite ill. It’s one thing to hear Trump rant about ‘pedophiles and rapists’, but to hear it in our own parliament use that phrase in reference to a law that simply aims to provide medical care for people who are literally dying of preventable illnesses is another thing entirely.

I know I shouldn’t expect better of Australia at this point, but damn it, I do.
